When a coherent carrier wave is subject to perturbations that are only known from their statistics, a typical consequence is that laser speckle appears. This course will introduce speckle and derive its properties from the concepts of statistical optics.
As further extensions of the basic physical optics courses, diffraction gratings, both thin and thick, are investigated. The basics of holography are introduced.
